You may apply the value of your ticket towards the new price or even change the ticket's destination and/or origin. If the fare you're offered is less than the original price, you'll be eligible to apply the difference in value towards a subsequent flight.
American's elimination of change fees does not apply for international flight routes that are not originating from North or South America. The only exception is the basic economy flights that originate from Asia These aren't refundable.
